Asset retention

Find out how long Meshy keeps the files you generate, and how to keep your own copy.

Meshy keeps the models you generate through the API for at most 3 days. After that, Meshy deletes them from its servers.

If you aren't an Enterprise customer and need a model for longer, download it and store your own copy.

Enterprise customers can keep their models indefinitely.

Download URLs are signed

The URLs in a task's model_urls, texture_urls, and thumbnail_url point at assets.meshy.ai and carry a signature (?Expires=…&Signature=…). A URL stops working at the task's expires_at. Getting the task again returns the same URL with the same expiry.

A Text to 3D task has no expires_at, or has it as null, and its URLs carry no expiry. That doesn't mean Meshy keeps the task. Unless you're an Enterprise customer, Meshy deletes the task 3 days after it finishes: getting it then returns 404, and its files are removed later. Download what you need within 3 days.

Because of this, follow these rules:

  • Download the files when the task reaches SUCCEEDED, and keep your own copy if you need the model for longer.
  • Don't store a download URL to send back to Meshy later as model_url, for example to Analyze Printability, Repair Printability, or Remesh. After the signature expires, that request fails with 400 failed to download model file.
  • While Meshy still keeps the source task, send its ID as input_task_id instead. After that, the task returns 404 Task not found, so send your own stored copy.
